At Slave Lake Dental, our Slave Lake dentists perform tooth extractions and wisdom teeth removal when a tooth cannot be saved or is causing issues for your oral health.
What is a Tooth Extraction?
When we extract a tooth, we remove it from its socket in the bone. At Slave Lake Dental, our dentists work to save natural teeth if at all possible and perform extractions only when a less invasive option would prove ineffective, or if keeping the tooth would put your oral health at risk.
Teeth are typically pulled as a result of excessive tooth damage, decay or wisdom teeth that have become problematic. Teeth may also occasionally be pulled to prepare for other dental procedures.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
This last set of molars emerges in the back corners of a normal adult mouth, typically for individuals between 17 and 25 years of age.
Wisdom teeth are not always functional and may crowd out other teeth as they grow. They can also create potential problems with your oral hygiene. In these circumstances, your dentist may recommend removing them.
Repairing Excessive Damage
Whenever possible, your dentist will work to save a natural tooth, but certain circumstances such as gum disease, injury or excessive decay will require an extraction.
If you have a damaged tooth which needs to be extracted, your dentist will discuss tooth replacement options with you. These may include dental crowns, bridges or dentures.
